DVSA has published information regarding changes to theory and practical tests. Please make sure to read this carefully.

Theory tests
Will resume 4th July (England only). DVSA has introduced social distancing measures and safety precautions at the test centres. These include:
  • Floor markings to keep people 2 metres apart.
  • Spacing workstations and chairs so all candidates are 2 metres away from each other.
  • Extra cleaning of test centres.
  • Protective transparent screens at the reception desk.
  • Hand sanitisers will be provided when the candidate arrives, during their test, and when leaving the test centre.
  • Workstations, including computers and headphones, will be cleaned before every test.
  • Test centre staff will be wearing a face covering (unless not possible for medical reasons) and protective gloves.
  • Candidates must enter the test centre alone.
  • Candidates will be encouraged to wear a face covering but it won’t be mandatory.

Practical tests
  • Car practical tests will resume 22 July.
  • Commencing 13 July, candidates whose tests are “on hold” will receive an invitation by email to arrange a new test online. These emails will be sent out in batches to prevent the booking system from getting overloaded. There is currently no date set when the booking system will be available to the general public.
  • Candidates must bring and wear a face covering during the test unless they have a very good reason not to e.g. medical condition or if wearing a face covering would cause severe distress. Candidates must inform DVSA of any good reason not to wear a face covering when arranging the test.
  • Candidates must take part in the Track & Trace initiative or the test will not go ahead.
  • Test centre waiting rooms and toilets will be closed.
  • If a candidate comes to the test centre with clear symptoms, the test will not go ahead.
  • If the candidate becomes unwell or starts to cough continuously during the test, the test will be stopped immediately.
  • Where the candidate fails the test either by committing a serious or dangerous fault or by making 16 minor faults, the candidate will be directed back to the test centre.
